It has been just under a month since the Kiwibank FinTech Accelerator 2018 Demo Day and we released our ventures into the wild. From here, we’ll follow their journeys and support where we can, while they focus on leveraging the networks gained through the programme and the leads gained from the showcase event.
The Big Finale
Once again, Demo Day was split into two separate events so that the ventures pitching for investment could have some dedicated time with the investors in attendance before celebrating their awesome progress over the 12-week programme with the community.
Early afternoon saw five of our KFA 2018 teams as they pitched to a room of over 50 investors. With a combined ask of $3.4m across the companies and pre-existing commitments it’s great to see the FinTech ecosystem in New Zealand is growing!
Slightly later in the day, the community gathered, filling the room with a range of potential customers, fintech industry experts, bank representatives, ministers and the general public.
Our phenomenal MC, Sarb Johal, started by introducing Mark Wilkshire, from Kiwibank, and Hemi Rolleston, of Callaghan Innovation, to represent the programme’s foundation partners.
From there, the show really started, with us hearing from the first five ventures:
SIMPLE DIVERSIFIED CRYPTOCURRENCY INVESTING
AI POWERED CUSTOMER JOURNEYS
MAKING INSURANCE EASY AS
CATALYSING THE FINTECH REVOLUTION
PAY WITH IMPACT
After a short interlude, during which the audience saw a bit of what happens behind the scenes during an accelerator, we rejoined the pitching for our final four ventures:
EMPOWERING MĀORI ENTREPRENEURS TO FUND THE THINGS THEY CARE ABOUT
SAVE SMARTER, MOVE IN SOONER
CONTROL YOUR DIGITAL ID
Closing the show we welcomed Laura Reitel, the Programme Director, who thanked everyone who has made the accelerator possible before breaking to network and celebrate with founders and community over drinks and nibbles.
From our programme team, this programme has been a rollercoaster of challenges and massive successes. The teams have been great to work with as we pushed them past their comfort zones and our sponsors have helped us immensely as we made sure the teams had all the resources needed available to them. The whole experience was a growing one for us and – we hope – for everyone involved. The feedback has been hugely positive and we hope its success leads to further progress and growth in the NZ fintech industry.
Finally, thanks again to everyone who made this programme possible!
